B.Put in was/wasn't/were/weren't.
  1. We didn't like our hotel room. It was very small and it wasn't very clean.
  2. Linda got married when she was 24 years old.
  3. I phoned you last evening, but you weren't home. Where were you?
  4. Joni wasn't at work last week because he was sick. He's better now.
  5. The banks weren't open yesterday because it was a holiday.
  6. "Were you at home at 9:30?" "No, I wasn't, I was at work." 
 
C.Change the verbs in brackets into the correct form of Simple Past Tense.
 
              Jack (1.be) was a young sailor. He (2.live) lived in England, but he (3.be) was often away with his ship.
              One summer he (4.come) came back from a long voyage and (5.find) found new neighbours
neat his mother's house. They (6.have) had a pretty daughter and Jack soon (7.love) loved her very much.
               He (8.say) said to her,"My next voyage will begin in a few days' time, Gloria. I love you, and I'll marry you when I come back. I'll think about you a present from every port."
               Jack's first port (9.be) was Freetown in Africa, and he (10.send) sent Gloria a parrot from there. It (11.speak) spoke five languages.
               When Jack's ship (12.reach) reached Australia, there (13.be) was a letter from Gloria. It (14.say) said,"Thanks you for the parrot, Jack. It tasted much better than a chicken."

           One day Nasreddin went to a (1) dinner party. He was (2) wearing old (3) clothes. When he came, nobody looked at him and nobody gave him (4) a seat so Nasreddin went home and (5) put on his best clothes and went back to the party.
           The (6) host at once got up and came to meet him. He (7) offered him to the best table and gave him a good seat and (8) offered him the (9) best food.
           Nasreddin sat and (10) put off this coat in the food and said,"Eat coat!" The guests were very (11) suprised and asked him,"What are you doing, Nasreddin?"
          "When I came here with my old clothes, nobody looked at me. Then, I went home and came back in my best clothes and you gave me the (12) best food and drink so you gave food to my clothes instead of me."
